Good morning to all — afternoon to those back stateside. Nothing too exciting has happened yet. I have a minor headache from the crown and coke my XO made for me last night to wash away the sorrowful defeat in Spades. We didn’t stand a chance. My partner Josh and I put up a valiant effort though we really didn't stand a chance….wait…thinking as I’m writing here…HOLD THE FRONT DOOR! It’s not over YET. We didn't finish the last game; it’s one to one. We said best two out of three — standby.

In the meantime a few positive notes from the morning. Football is on here. One of the perks of being 14 hours ahead is that the college football games played on Friday show on Saturday, the ones on Saturday show on Sunday, the NFL games played on Sunday show here on Monday, and Monday Night Football shows here on Tuesday — so what I’m basically saying is that I’m a happy camper.

I also had a great conversation this morning with the prior Commanding Officer and Operations Officer at SOI West out of Camp Pendleton — Christain Castilla. He is now an MBA student at Cornell University. We just shot the breeze, talked about our time in the Marine Corps, and about life. He gave me some really great pointers not only about business school but how to plan for the long haul after it as well. Stand up, gentleman — a worthwhile chat.

After our conversation, I started studying for the GRE with this service called Magoosh. I’ll tell you right now I’m only through the introductory videos, and already want to throw my computer out the window.

6 hours Later….

The time on deck is 20:28PM JST. I got woken up from a long nap, by the challengers wanting to claim victory in Spades.

UPDATE: The game hasn’t happened yet. Pushed until tomorrow.
